Mirzec is a rural commune located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in the Starachowice County. Its administrative seat is situated in the village of Mirzec. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had a population of 8,430 inhabitants. The commune covers an area of 110.98 km², of which 53% is agricultural land and 42% is forested. Mirzec has a rich history dating back to the 19th century; in 1885, the commune had 2,872 residents and an iron ore mine. At that time, the commune included villages such as Borki, Czerwona, and Dziewiętnki. Over the centuries, the administrative structure of the commune has undergone changes; in 1994, part of its territory was transferred to the newly established commune of Skarżysko Kościelne, and in 1997, the village of Jagodne was incorporated. The commune of Mirzec is divided into several village districts, including Gadka, Jagodne, Małyszyn, and Mirzec I and II, and also includes villages without village district status, such as Krzewa or Osiny-Majorat. Mirzec is surrounded by the communes of Brody, Iłża, Mirów, Skarżysko Kościelne, Wąchock, and Wierzbica, which fosters cooperation and cultural exchange. The commune is not only a place with a rich history but also an area of significant natural value, making it attractive both to residents and tourists.
