wikipedia
Mogilno is a town in Poland, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, known for its rich history dating back to the early Middle Ages. The town received its city rights in 1398 and for centuries was owned by Benedictine abbots, which is reflected in its coat of arms featuring golden crosses. Architecturally, it stands out with its former Benedictine monastery and church, one of the oldest in Poland, and the late Gothic parish church of St. James the Elder. The historic urban fabric also includes 19th-century tenement houses and a neo-Gothic town hall. Along the railway line No. 353, diverse forms of development can be found, including single-family housing estates and apartment blocks, reflecting the town's urban growth. Mogilno is known for its educational institutions, such as primary and secondary schools, as well as the University of the Third Age, and cultural venues like the "Wawrzyn" cinema, the Museum of the Mogilno Land, and the Mogilno Cultural Center, which organize a variety of cultural events. The town is part of the Piast Route, making it an important point on Poland's tourist map, with convenient connections to nearby attractions. Among interesting facts, until 1975 Mogilno was the seat of the county administration, and during World War II, it resisted the German invasion for seven days, an effort honored with the Grunwald Cross III Class. Today, the town is dynamically developing, with a rich sports and recreational offer, including a modern sports hall and a stadium where the local club Pogoń Mogilno plays its matches. Surrounded by beautiful nature and clean lakes, Mogilno is becoming an increasingly attractive place for both residents and tourists.
