The Monument of the Uhlan with a Maiden, also known as "The Uhlan and the Maiden," is a distinctive sculpture located in Grudziądz, in the Old Town. Unveiled on August 23, 2008, the monument pays tribute to the pre-war Center for Cavalry Training and is the result of an initiative by the Social Organizing Committee for the Construction of the Monument, established in 2007. It was created by local artist Ryszard Kaczor, and the sculpture, cast in bronze in a realistic style, is the work of the foundry "Art. Mileniom." The centerpiece of the composition, which consists of two figures, is a fragment of a poem by General Bolesław Wieniawa-Długoszowski, adding depth and cultural significance to the work. The monument is situated near the town hall, the parish church, and historic granaries, highlighting its architectural and aesthetic qualities, which harmonize with the surroundings. It is worth noting that during both World Wars, the Germans placed a wooden sculpture of Chancellor Bismarck in Teutonic attire at this very location, further enriching the history of the site. The unveiling ceremony took place in a historic atmosphere, with the participation of many cavalry soldiers and under the patronage of Polish President Lech Kaczyński. The monument is a symbol of not only local but also nationwide equestrian tradition, and its presence on the Vistula Meadows serves as a reminder of the rich history of the cavalry in Poland.
