wikipedia
The monument to Leopold Szersznik in Cieszyn was unveiled on June 20, 2006, to honor the figure of Leopold Szersznik, a Jesuit and museum curator. The initiative to build the monument began in 1998, when a Social Committee, chaired by Krzysztof Szelong, director of the Książnica Cieszyńska library, raised the necessary 70,000 złoty for this purpose. Initially, the plan was to place the monument on Londzin Square, but it was ultimately decided to locate it in Peace Park. The monument, created by Urszula Górnicka-Herma and Tomasz Herma, stands 3.5 meters tall and is a significant feature of Cieszyn's public space. Its design combines aesthetic qualities with the function of commemorating an important cultural figure, highlighting Szersznik's historical significance in the region. The monument aims not only to commemorate but also to educate the public about Szersznik's contributions to cultural life and museum work. An interesting fact is that the construction of the monument was the result of community collaboration, reflecting the local community's attachment to its heritage.
