wikipedia
The "Głodówka" Mountain Hostel of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) is a mountain shelter located on the Głodówka clearing in the Bukowina Foothills, between Bukowina Tatrzańska and Łysa Polana. It offers an extensive panoramic view of the Tatra Mountains, stretching from Hawrań to the Western Tatras. The history of the hostel dates back to the 1930s, when the Society of Friends of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow built the first wooden version, naming it after the artist Karol Stryjeński. In 1935, the hostel was handed over to the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) and officially opened by President Ignacy Mościcki. A fire that destroyed the building in 1938 led to its reconstruction between 1938 and 1939, with the new building designed by engineer Antoni Żukowski being adapted for scouting purposes. Despite being under German administration during the war, the hostel survived in good condition. After the war, it was returned to the management of ZHP, but in 1950, following the unlawful incorporation of ZHP into the Polish Youth Association, it lost its independence. Over time, it was once again restored to ZHP, and in the 1980s, a new building called "Drewniak" was constructed. In 2005, the Foundation of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association Hostel Głodówka was established to manage the facility. The hostel was renamed to its current name and underwent renovation. Today, it serves as a center for scouts, school youth, and private guests, organizing various events such as "Clean Tatras" and tourist rallies. The hostel grounds also feature a chapel dedicated to the Bethlehem Light of Peace. Since 2021, the facility has been managed by the Foundation for Education, Recreation, and Leisure in Krakow, with the support of the Krakow Scout Region of ZHP. The hostel combines architectural elements with a rich history and initiatives aimed at supporting educational, environmental, and cultural activities.
