Mrzeżyno

Mrzeżyno, a seaside resort in northwestern Poland, belongs to the Trzebiatów municipality in Gryfice County. Situated at the mouth of the Rega River, the town is known for its beautiful sandy beaches, dunes, and a health-beneficial microclimate, attracting numerous tourists, especially in summer. Architecturally, it stands out with a Neo-Romanesque church from 1912, famous for its marine-themed mosaics, and buildings typical of the region that commemorate its fishing history. The town also features a former rescue station building, reflecting its rich maritime heritage. The name "Mrzeżyno" has an interesting toponymic origin, derived from a local dialect term for a fishing net. The settlement's history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it served as a trading and fishing port for Trzebiatów. One of the key historical events here was the post-World War II "Wedding of Poland to the Sea" ceremony in 1945. Beyond cultural activities such as sea music festivals and local celebrations, Mrzeżyno is also ideal for sports and recreation, offering numerous hiking trails and opportunities for water sports. An interesting fact is that the renowned American painter Lyonel Feininger spent summers in Mrzeżyno, which greatly influenced his work. Although the village has a small permanent population, it has become an important destination for family tourism, offering a wide range of accommodations and attractions, including a designated swimming area and boat trips on the Rega River.
