It was granted town rights as Kinsbark in the late 14th century but was demoted to village status in the 15th century. The town underwent numerous changes and came under Austrian rule in 1772. The 19th century brought infrastructure development, including the construction of a railway station and factories, which contributed to Mszana Dolna's growing importance. In 1952, the town regained its municipal rights, and in 1991, the former commune was divided into a town and a rural commune. Notable architectural landmarks include the Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel, a World War I military cemetery, a preserved manorial park, and a Jewish cemetery.
