The Tychy City Museum, established in November 2004, opened its doors to visitors in April 2005 with its inaugural exhibition titled "One Hundred Years of City Life," which focused on the history of Tychy in the 20th century. The museum's main headquarters is located in the historic Old Town Hall building at Wolności Square 1, an important architectural landmark of the city. From 2005 to 2012, the museum was housed in the former malt drying facility within the Tyskie Browary Książęce (Tychy Prince Brewery) complex, highlighting the region's industrial heritage. In 2012, the museum moved to its current building, and until 2018, it also utilized an exhibition hall at Katowicka Street 9.
As part of the museum, the Tychy Sports Gallery was opened in 2016 at the Municipal Stadium. It not only showcases the history of sports in Tychy but also engages the local community through educational activities and promotes an active lifestyle. The museum manages collections across four departments: City History, Photography, Art, and Ethnology, organizing diverse temporary exhibitions, outdoor displays, and educational events such as lectures, talks, and city walks. The institution has also been organizing the Tychy Historical Symposium since 2007 and is involved in publishing activities.
The museum has gained recognition, including distinctions in the Ministry of Culture's Competition for Museum Event of the Year SYBILLA and awards in the Competitions of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship for various exhibitions and educational projects. An interesting aspect is the museum's engagement of children and youth through innovative educational forms such as field games and art workshops, as well as summer and winter activity cycles. The Tychy City Museum comprehensively and engagingly contributes to the promotion of local culture and enriches residents' knowledge of the city's history.
