wikipedia
The mural at Piotrkowska Street 152 in Łódź is an impressive piece of street art, measuring 30 meters in length and 20 meters in height. It was created as part of the "Colorful Tolerance" initiative in 2000. The execution of the mural, carried out by the group Design Futura, began in September 2001 and was completed on November 26 of the same year. Initially planned as "Victorious Łódź" with a motif of a ship after a battle, the design was modified to better reflect the character and spirit of Piotrkowska Street, highlighting its deep connection with the city. The artwork covers an area of approximately 600 square meters and required around 2,000 spray cans to complete. This mural was not only one of the largest in Poland but also held the title of the world's largest mural for some time. From an architectural perspective, the mural adorns the wall of a tenement building and has become a significant element of Łódź's urban landscape, enhancing the aesthetics of this famous street. Culturally, it stands as a testament to the evolution of Polish street art and openness to new forms of artistic expression, while also promoting values of tolerance and diversity. Today, it is recognized as one of the largest graffiti murals in Europe, solidifying its important place in the history of street art.
