Museum of Material Culture "Baćkauszczyna" in Ryboły

The Museum of Material Culture "Baćkauszczyna" is a regional ethnographic and historical museum, established in 2009 in Ryboły on the initiative of Father Grzegorz Sosna, the parish priest of the local Orthodox church. It is housed in a building dating back to the early 19th century, which served as an elementary school until 2007. Architecturally, the building represents styles associated with the 19th century and emphasizes the local character of the region. The museum displays a rich collection of costumes, household equipment, and everyday objects that document the lives of the inhabitants of Belarusian villages in the area, such as Ryboły, Ciełuszek, Wojszek, Pawłów, and Soc. Among the exhibits is also a traditional rural weaving workshop, which is a notable feature highlighting the region's artisanal heritage. The museum not only preserves local traditions but also serves an educational role, encouraging the exploration of Belarusian culture and the history of rural households in the area. It is worth emphasizing that Father Sosna's initiative contributed to the revitalization of the local community and the strengthening of cultural ties in the region.
