wikipedia
Stacja Muzeum is a self-governing cultural institution based in Warsaw, established in 2015 on the initiative of the Masovian Voivodeship Local Government and Polish State Railways (PKP). It operates at the site of the historic Warszawa Główna station, taking over the collections of the former Railway Museum in Warsaw, which had been closed down. The institution continues the tradition of the previous museum, with its official opening taking place during the Night of Museums on May 14, 2016. Despite initial plans to create a Center for Communication and Technology, in 2018, Polish State Railways changed their investment strategy, which led to the need to clear the station area of exhibits. In 2019, the transport of historic rail vehicles was completed to facilitate the station's reconstruction. The branch in Sochaczew, the Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, boasts extensive collections, including the oldest preserved steam locomotive in Poland from 1882, as well as a collection of narrow-gauge rolling stock, photographs, uniforms, and other railway memorabilia. Stacja Muzeum gathers railway technology artifacts, including locomotives, elements of infrastructure, and valuable documents related to the history of Polish railways. Among its most valuable exhibits is the salon car Ashx 01, used by President Bolesław Bierut, and an armored train from the 1940s. A notable highlight is the unique Pm3 series steam locomotive—the only preserved example in the world with an aerodynamic casing. The museum's outdoor exhibition features a variety of locomotives, enriching Warsaw's cultural offerings and attracting railway history enthusiasts.
