wikipedia
The Naval Shipyard S.A., the oldest shipyard in Poland, was founded on May 10, 1922, in Puck as the Naval Port Workshops. The facility underwent a series of transformations, becoming the Naval Shipyard in 1950. It played a key role in the production and repair of vessels for both the Navy and the civilian sector. Throughout its existence, the shipyard built approximately 100 ships and 30 auxiliary units, including minesweepers, landing craft, and the corvette "Ślązak." The shipyard's architecture evolved from basic early structures to more advanced facilities such as docks and production halls. Historically, the shipyard played a significant role in the country's defense, and in the 1930s, it constructed various vessels, including those related to the modernization of the Polish fleet. After World War II, due to growing demand, the shipyard streamlined its production capabilities, and in 1989, a new dock with a capacity of 8,000 tons was commissioned. Although the shipyard developed over the decades, it faced serious financial difficulties in the 21st century, leading to its bankruptcy in 2009. In 2011, the liquidation process began, and in 2017, the shipyard was taken over by the Polish Armaments Group, resulting in the establishment of a new entity named Stocznia Wojenna. Interestingly, the shipyard also specialized in the production of civilian vessels, such as bulk carriers and icebreakers, thereby impacting local job markets and the economy.
