Nawojowa Góra

Nawojowa Góra is a village in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, with a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Known for its connections to prominent figures such as Józef Piłsudski and Napoleon Nikodem Cybulski, Nawojowa Góra is home to many important sites and modern institutions. Its architectural heritage includes the Domański Villa, the 18th-century manor complex Prochownia, and a brick school from 1911, which now bears the name of Marshal Piłsudski. The village also features several wooden houses and chapels from the 19th and 20th centuries, highlighting its cultural legacy. The culture of Nawojowa Góra is reflected in the activities of local organizations, such as LKS Górzanka, a football club founded in 1954 that continues to operate despite the absence of a senior team in recent years. Residents actively organize literary and artistic competitions, commemorating regional history, particularly evident in the plaque dedicated to Fr. Jan Chorąży, a pioneer of local education. Historically, Nawojowa Góra was owned by noble families, and its fate changed over the centuries—from being part of the Free City of Kraków to the period of World War II, when the village became a center of resistance in the region. In 1944, Blessed Alfons Mazurek, a Discalced Carmelite, was martyred here, underscoring the tragic events the village endured during that time. Today, surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of the Tenczynek Ridge, the village also attracts attention due to its diverse infrastructure, including modern manufacturing facilities such as a glassworks and an optical switch factory. An interesting feature that significantly enriches the village is the monument commemorating the First Brigade of Piłsudski’s Legions, symbolizing Nawojowa Góra’s connection to Polish history. Another notable fact is that the village is traversed by National Road 79 and the Kraków-Katowice railway line, giving it strategic transportation importance.
