wikipedia
Nielisz is a picturesque village in Poland, located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Nielisz commune, on the Wieprz River, where an artificial reservoir has been built. The village has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when it was a noble estate of the Nieliski family. In the 17th century, the family declined, and the village passed into the hands of various owners, including Chancellor Jan Zamoyski, who incorporated Nielisz into his estates. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the village developed dynamically, becoming the seat of the commune with a population of over a thousand people. Nielisz is home to a wooden parish church dedicated to St. Adalbert and Our Lady of the Rosary, built in 1859, which features a log structure and a unique three-sided closure of the presbytery. In the 18th century, the church was rebuilt on the site of an earlier chapel, and in 1922, it gained the status of an independent parish. Architecturally, the church is surrounded by cemeteries, including a cemetery from World War I. Nielisz also has a turbulent history from the 20th century, including tragic events related to World War II, when the village experienced pacification by the Germans and frontline battles. An interesting fact is that Nielisz is also known for losses suffered during numerous fires and for the activities of local organizations, such as the village fire brigade, established in 1903. Thanks to its rich cultural heritage and architecture, Nielisz is an important part of the region's history.
