Szum, also known as the Broad Waterfall (Wodospad Szeroki), is an impressive waterfall located on the Będkówka stream in the picturesque village of Będkowice in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is one of the few and tallest waterfalls on the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, reaching a height of 4 meters. The waterfall lies within the Landscape Park of the Little Kraków Valleys (Park Krajobrazowy Dolinki Krakowskie), making it an important natural site. Its history dates back approximately 8,000–6,000 years, to the Atlantic climatic optimum period, when calcareous tufa barriers formed in the Będkówka Valley as a result of the calcification of mosses and liverworts.
Architecturally, the waterfall is formed at a height of four meters on a tufa rock barrier composed of limestone. It is not only a natural phenomenon but also a site of cultural and touristic significance, located near climbing routes. It is worth noting that there are shelters nearby, such as Brandysówka, making the area popular among tourists and climbers. An interesting fact is the formation of a pool behind the waterfall barrier, which adds an additional landscape feature to the area. Thus, Szum is not only a place of natural value but also an important tourist attraction, drawing nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
