wikipedia
Nowogrodziec, historically known as Nowimburk, is a town located in Lower Silesia, within Bolesławiec County. Its history dates back to the 13th century when, in 1233, it was granted town rights by Duke Henry the Bearded. The town benefited from its favorable location on the Kwisa and Iwnica rivers, making it an important trade and defensive hub. Nowogrodziec boasts numerous historical monuments, including a monastery complex, the ruins of the Magdalene convent, defensive walls, and a late-baroque parish church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. Nestled in a picturesque valley and surrounded by the Lower Silesian Forests, the town attracts nature enthusiasts. Nowogrodziec developed dynamically thanks to local clay deposits and a growing ceramics industry. Despite wartime destruction, including during World War II, the town was quickly rebuilt. Today, it serves as a local service and industrial center, home to several larger enterprises and a subzone of the Kamienna Góra Special Economic Zone. Cultural life in Nowogrodziec revolves around the Municipal Center of Culture and Sports, which organizes a variety of events, including traditional festivals and competitions. The town also offers a rich educational landscape with institutions at various levels. Nowogrodziec’s international cooperation includes partnerships with towns such as Großdubrau, Srbac, and Przemyślany, highlighting its regional significance.
