Overview

wikipedia
Dąbrowa is a village in Poland, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Sępólno County, and is part of the Kamień Krajeński municipality. Its history dates back to 1819, and the name likely originates from the oak forests that once covered the surrounding areas. The village was inhabited by both Poles and Germans, which contributed to the unique social and cultural dynamics of the community. Before 1918, Dąbrowa experienced significant growth, reaching its peak population in 1895 with 75 houses and 455 residents. During the interwar period, despite various challenges, cultural and social life remained active, including the establishment of various associations and societies. During World War II, the village was occupied by German forces, and the local community suffered under their terror. After the war, due to the migration of the German population, the village was almost completely depopulated, with only a few Polish families remaining. Today, Dąbrowa has over 50 residential buildings and several public facilities, including a shop and a community center. The village is surrounded by the picturesque landscape of the Krajeńskie Lake District. Cultural life in Dąbrowa remains vibrant, with organized festivals, sports events, and activities led by the Volunteer Fire Department. The local sports club, Orzeł Dąbrowa, represents the community's passion for athletics. Historical landmarks include a former German Evangelical-Augsburg cemetery and roadside figures of the Virgin Mary. Despite an aging population, the village actively engages in various educational and recreational initiatives, offering children activities at the community center, reflecting its vitality and commitment to preserving local traditions.
