Obryte is a rural commune located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Pułtusk County. Between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the former Ostrołęka Voivodeship. The administrative seat of the commune is the village of Obryte, and according to data from October 2011, the commune had a population of 4,897. Covering an area of 139.73 km², Obryte is characterized by its significant agricultural and forested landscapes—57% of its land is dedicated to agriculture, while 38% is covered by forests, highlighting its importance to both farming and forestry. The commune makes up 16.86% of the total area of Pułtusk County. It includes numerous villages (sołectwa) such as Ciółkowo Małe, Kalinowo, Psary, and Zambski Kościelne, as well as smaller settlements like Bartodzieje-Gajówka and Mokrus. Over the years, Obryte has experienced various stages of development. In the post-war period, from 1946 to 1951, the area was home to an underground independence unit led by Jan Kmiołek "Wir." This history serves as a testament to the struggle for Poland's freedom and independence, and local memories of these events remain an important part of the cultural identity of the residents.
