Stare Juchy is a rural municipality located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Ełk County, with its seat in a town of the same name. The municipality has a rich history dating back to its establishment, and between 1975 and 1998 it was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship. The area of the municipality is 196.55 km², of which 59% is agricultural land and 17% is forested. The municipality constitutes 17.68% of the area of Ełk County. In 2004, the population was 4,023, and by 2019 it had decreased to 3,733. Over the years, the municipality has been managed by several mayors, including Danuta Kawecka from 1990 to 2006 and Ewa Jurkowska-Kawałko since 2006.
