Old Town

Lublin's Old Town is the historically oldest part of the city, which has functioned as an administrative district since February 23, 2006. Located in the central part of Lublin, within the Nałęczów Plateau and the Bystrzyca River valley, the Old Town is home to numerous architectural monuments that document the region's rich history. Among them are fragments of the city walls, including the Kraków Gate and Grodzka Gate, as well as the Gothic Tower. Renaissance townhouses surround the market square, where the former town hall, known as the Crown Tribunal, stands. It is also worth noting the Archcathedral, the Trinitarian Tower, the Dominican Basilica, and the Old Theater. Attention should be paid to Po Farze Square and Łokietka Square, which also contribute to the cultural landscape of the Old Town. The castle, along with the Castle Chapel, lies outside the city walls but within the district. In 2007, the architectural and urban complex of the Old Town was inscribed on the list of Historic Monuments, highlighting its significance. The boundaries of the district were established according to the statute adopted in 2009, and their course is the result of artificial guidelines based on main streets and riverbeds. The area of the Old Town is 0.94 km², and as of June 30, 2018, it had 2,321 registered residents. The Old Town is a place that combines history, architecture, and culture, making it an important landmark on the map of Lublin.
