Olesnica

Oleśnica, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship within the Wrocław agglomeration, is a city with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The name of the town derives from the word "olcha" (alder tree), and the first mentions of Oleśnica come from 1189. In the 13th century, the city was granted town rights, becoming an administrative and economic center. During the reign of the Oleśnica Piasts, a castle and defensive walls were built, some of which have survived to this day. Among the notable monuments are the 13th-century Castle of the Dukes of Oleśnica and the Basilica of St. John the Apostle, which testify to the city's former power. Oleśnica experienced significant expansion in the 19th century when, thanks to the establishment of a railway line, it gained new transport importance. Many buildings from this period, including the neo-Renaissance District Court building and public utility structures, contribute to the city's architectural richness.
