Opatów

Opatów is an urban-rural municipality located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, within Opatów County. The seat of the municipality is the town of Opatów, which boasts a rich history dating back to 1867, when it was established as a collective municipality as part of the administrative reform of the Kingdom of Poland. During the interwar period and after World War II, the municipality retained its administrative affiliations, though it was briefly abolished in 1954 before being reinstated in 1973. The municipality covers an area of 113.39 km², of which 92% is agricultural land and 2% is forested. In 2004, the population of Opatów Municipality was 12,711. Opatów is home to significant religious communities, including Roman Catholic parishes such as the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Martin, as well as a Jehovah's Witnesses congregation.
