Pelplin is a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Tczew County, known for its rich history and numerous monuments. Situated on the Wierzyca River, it serves as a local transportation hub, which supports its development. The town boasts a wealth of architectural heritage, including a Gothic post-Cistercian cathedral complex, one of the most important landmarks in the region, which has been inscribed on the List of Historic Monuments. In 1999, Pelplin was visited by Pope John Paul II, an event that contributed to the modernization of the town and increased its tourist significance. Pelplin is also distinguished by its Diocesan Museum, home to valuable collections including the Gutenberg Bible, and the Bishop's Park and Garden. The history of Pelplin dates back to 1274, when the Pomeranian Duke Mestwin II granted the town to the Cistercians, who built a monastery and developed the settlement over the centuries. The town has witnessed many significant events, from invasions by Swedish forces in the 17th century, through the destruction of World War II, to its return to Poland in 1920. Pelplin also has strong cultural ties; it hosts numerous events such as the Pomeranian Poetry Festival and the International Organ Music Festival. An interesting fact is that Pelplin is home to the Catholic radio station Głos and an internet television channel, highlighting its dynamic media development. Pelplin is also a member of the Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia Metropolitan Area, which fosters cooperation with other local governments in the region.
