Pilica is an urban-rural municipality located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Zawiercie County. It was formed from a historical area that, between 1870 and 1871, incorporated the town of Pilica—which had lost its town rights—and the village of Złożeniec. In the past, the municipality was part of the Olkusz County in the Kielce Governorate, and from 1975 to 1998, it belonged administratively to the Katowice Voivodeship. The seat of the municipality is the town of Pilica, which plays a significant role in the local community. According to data from 2004, the municipality had a population of 9,183. It covers an area of 138.89 km², dominated by agricultural land (74%) and forests (21%), reflecting its rural character. The municipality includes several villages, such as Biskupice, Dzwonowice, and Wierzbica.
