Płużnica is a rural commune located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Wąbrzeźno County, with its administrative seat in Płużnica. In 2009, it had a population of 4,936. The commune covers an area of 119.33 km², most of which is agricultural land (86%), indicating the region's farming character. Płużnica is picturesquely situated on the shores of three lakes: Wieczno, Płużnickie, and Wieldządzkie.
In terms of architecture, the commune stands out with its numerous immovable heritage sites. These include a manor and farm complex in Bartoszewice, featuring a manor house built between 1913 and 1917 and a 19th-century park. In Błędowo, visitors can see a church complex dating back to the early 14th century, including the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, as well as a manor complex from the first half of the 19th century. In Józefkowo, a mid-19th-century manor and park have been preserved. An interesting site is the St. Barbara Manor Chapel from 1734 in Mgowo. Płużnica itself is home to a late 14th-century church dedicated to St. Margaret.
