Poczesna

Poczesna is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within the Częstochowa County, in the municipality of the same name. It lies on the Warta River, south of Częstochowa. The village boasts a rich history dating back to at least 1470, featuring notable figures and events throughout its past. Poczesna served as an economic center, and Jan Ocieski, the starost of Olsztyn, built a wooden chapel here, which initiated the development of the parish. The current Church of St. John the Baptist, constructed in the 19th century, is one of the local landmarks, alongside the Chapel of St. John Nepomucene and the Municipal Office building from 1921. Poczesna was also a site of active mining operations, particularly during the interwar period when iron ore mines were in operation. The extraction was carried out by the Joint Stock Company of Ironworks "Huta Bankowa," which contributed to the region's development. In terms of culture, the Municipal Center of Culture, Information, and Recreation has been operating since 1994, organizing various activities and artistic events for the local community. Another important aspect of social life is the Volunteer Fire Department, established in 1915, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015. Sports play a significant role in Poczesna, largely thanks to the People's Sports Club "Grom Złota Dama," which focuses on various disciplines, including table tennis and volleyball, attracting local sports enthusiasts. It is also worth noting that the village has a well-developed transportation network, served by MPK Częstochowa bus lines and National Road 91. Throughout its history, Poczesna has experienced numerous upheavals, including belonging to different administrative divisions, which influenced its socio-economic development. The village also witnessed tragic events, such as World War II, during which many of its residents lost their lives. Despite these challenges, Poczesna preserves its local traditions and culture, making it an interesting place on the regional map.
