Poniatowa is an urban-rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Opole County, with its administrative seat in the town of the same name. Between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the former Lublin Voivodeship. The municipality covers an area of 84.16 km², dominated by agricultural land, which accounts for 76% of the total area, and forested areas, covering 16%. In 2004, the population of the municipality was 15,295. Among the villages within Poniatowa are Dąbrowa Wronowska, Kowala, Kraczewice, and Niezabitów. Poniatowa boasts a well-developed educational infrastructure, including several primary schools, a general secondary school (liceum), and a technical secondary school (technikum). Architecturally, the local buildings are noteworthy, most reflecting regional styles and serving public utility functions.
