Poniec is an urban-rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Gostyń County, with its administrative seat in the town of Poniec. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Leszno Voivodeship. According to demographic data, in 2004, Poniec had a population of 7,863, which decreased to 7,765 by 2017. The municipality covers an area of 132.32 km², of which 74% is agricultural land and 18% is forested, reflecting the region's rural character. Poniec constitutes 16.33% of the total area of Gostyń County. Poniec is a place rich in history, which is evident in its architecture. The area features historic buildings, churches, and other structures that are part of the regional cultural heritage.
