Prostki is a rural commune located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Ełk County, with its seat in the town of Prostki. According to data from June 2004, the commune was inhabited by 7,509 people. The administrative history of the commune dates back to the 1970s, when from 1973 to 1975 it was part of Grajewo County, and from 1975 to 1998 it belonged to the Suwałki Voivodeship. The commune covers an area of 230.47 km², of which 66% is agricultural land and 22% is forests. This constitutes 20.73% of the area of Ełk County. Prostki is characterized by a rich demographic structure, which was studied in 2014. The commune includes many village administrative units, such as Bogusze, Dąbrowskie, Gorczyce, and Sołtmany, as well as several localities without such status, like Ciernie and Kibisy. Neighboring communes include Biała Piska, Ełk, and Grajewo. Architecturally, the commune boasts buildings typical of the Warmian-Masurian region, with a rural character. Prostki hosts various cultural events that integrate the local community and create a space for dialogue among residents.
