Przedbórz

Przedbórz is a town in the Łódzkie Voivodeship, situated on the Przedbórz Upland by the Pilica River, with a rich history dating back to before 1370, when it was granted town rights. In the Middle Ages, the town was associated with the Sandomierz Land and gained importance due to its strategic location on the trade route between Silesia and Ruthenia. Przedbórz is home to valuable architectural monuments, such as the Church of St. Alexius from 1278, a Classicist town hall from 1820, and the remains of a castle built by Casimir the Great. The town is also known for its unique Baroque wayside shrines, known as "cholera shrines," which were erected to protect against epidemics. Among the historical curiosities, it is worth mentioning the destruction brought by the Swedish Deluge and World War II, which significantly impacted the development and demographic structure of Przedbórz. The town was a site of partisan activity during the German occupation, and its residents were involved in various resistance efforts. After the war, Przedbórz became a commercial center and preserved its weaving and craft traditions. Today, Przedbórz is surrounded by beautiful nature, being part of the Przedbórz Landscape Park, which fosters the development of tourism.
