wikipedia
The Przewięź Lock is the sixth lock on the Augustów Canal, located in Augustów, between Lake Studzieniczne and Lake Białe Augustowskie. It was built between 1826 and 1827 under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Engineer August Schulz. Architecturally, the lock has been preserved in its original state, making it a valuable object both in terms of hydrotechnical engineering and 19th-century architecture. With a water level difference of 0.86 m, a length of 46.17 m, and a width of 5.96 m, the lock enhances the landscape of the region and attracts tourists as well as enthusiasts of history and technology. An interesting fact is that the lock gates are made of wood, which is rare in such structures, as many modern locks use metal and concrete. The Przewięź Lock not only serves a technical function but also forms part of the cultural heritage of the region, serving as a testament to the historical significance of the Augustów Canal, which played a key role in the development of water transport and trade in the 19th century. Its preservation in its original state makes it an important point on the tourist map, where visitors can experience the spirit of a bygone era and appreciate the engineering skills of their ancestors.
