PTTK "Murowaniec" Shelter

The "Murowaniec" Shelter, located on Hala Gąsienicowa in the Tatra Mountains, was built between 1921 and 1925 and is an important stop on hiking trails. Its architecture, designed by Zdzisław Kalinowski and Karol Siciński, features large, unworked stones that blend seamlessly into the mountain landscape. The construction of the shelter was carried out by the Polish Army, highlighting its historical significance. It was inaugurated in 1925 with the participation of the President of Poland. The shelter has undergone numerous renovations, including an expansion in the 1950s and reconstruction after a fire in 1963. Since 1983, it has been managed by Andrzej Kusion, who introduced new amenities for tourists. "Murowaniec" not only offers accommodation but also serves as a starting point for challenging trails, such as Orla Perć, attracting mountain enthusiasts and hikers. It is worth noting that the building has been granted heritage status, underscoring its cultural and historical value. The shelter provides 110 sleeping places, including multi-bed rooms, and features a Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TOPR) outpost, enhancing the safety of visitors. A notable feature is a commemorative plaque dedicated to Adam Asnyk, reflecting the shelter's connection to Polish literature and culture. Its proximity to the Polish Mountaineering Association’s Central Training Center "Betlejemka" further adds to its appeal as a base for climbers and mountaineers. The "Murowaniec" Shelter is not just a place to stay but also an important part of the Tatra Mountains' culture and history, drawing tourists and mountain trekking enthusiasts alike.
