Raciąż is a rural municipality in the Masovian Voivodeship, located in Płońsk County. Its administrative seat is the town of Raciąż. For many years, the municipality was part of the Ciechanów Voivodeship (1975-1998). The history of Raciąż dates back to the times of the Kingdom of Poland, when the municipality belonged to the Sierpc County in the Płock Governorate. In 1870, Raciąż and a part of the abolished Poniatowo municipality were incorporated into the Raciąż municipality. The municipality covers an area of 248.79 km², of which 77% is agricultural land and 15% is forested. Before World War II, the municipality was divided into 20 village administrative districts (gromady), reflecting the diversity of its local community. According to demographic data, the municipality had a population of 8,813 in 2004, but this number drastically dropped to 4,437 by 2017. Among the village administrative units (sołectwa) of the municipality are Budy Kraszewskie, Charzyny, Dobrska-Kolonia, and Kossobudy. It is worth noting the local architecture, which includes historical monuments and reflects the region's rich cultural heritage. Raciąż also features numerous green and forested areas, offering opportunities for recreation and relaxation in close contact with nature. The municipality borders other towns, which fosters mutual cultural and social interactions and serves as an important element of local tradition and custom exchange.
