Radziejów

Radziejów, a city in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century, when it was first mentioned in historical records. Located in the central part of Kuyavia, approximately 35 kilometers from Inowrocław, it serves as the seat of Radziejów County. In the 16th century, Radziejów became a royal city of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and an important administrative center where local assemblies, known as sejmiks, were held. Architecturally, the city is distinguished by its parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, founded by the Bishop of Kraków in 1331, with later transformations in the Neo-Gothic and Baroque styles. Another significant landmark is the 14th-century Franciscan church and monastery, which now houses the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In Radziejów, remnants of the medieval urban layout can be observed, along with 19th-century houses and the town hall. The city also holds considerable cultural significance, with the Radziejów Cultural Center organizing literary events, exhibitions, and festivals. Celebrations of local holidays and the activities of associations such as the Society of Kuyavia Lovers contribute to the preservation of regional traditions and history. Radziejów is also home to an active sports club, Start Radziejów, and a swimming club called "Wodnik." Notably, as one of the oldest cities in Poland, Radziejów has preserved its cultural heritage while continuing to develop socially and economically.
