wikipedia
The Rohacka Valley, located in the Slovak part of the Western Tatras, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region, distinguished by its characteristic post-glacial landscape. Visitors can observe extensive moraines, lateral valleys, and impressive rock faces reaching heights of 200–250 meters. A useful guide to these areas was Miklós Szontagh, who in 1858 described the majesty of the surrounding mountains, further highlighting their appeal. The valley features several clearings, one of which holds a monument dedicated to Alexius Demian, considered a pioneer of tourism in Orava, inscribed with a motto emphasizing the preservation of mountain values. The valley offers a variety of hiking trails leading to the Rohackie Waterfalls, Banikowska Pass, and the Submerged Lake. Another advantage is the Rohacki Buffet, a resting spot for tourists, with an obelisk commemorating Ján Ťatliak, an important figure in local tourism. The Rohacka Valley, one of the two main branches of the Zuberec Valley, is surrounded by mountain huts, walking paths, and scenic hiking routes. Its accessibility is enhanced by its proximity to the Polish border and convenient transport links, making it an ideal destination for active recreation. The hiking trails offer diverse routes, such as the red trail from Zuberec through Zwierówka to the Rohacki Buffet, the yellow trail connecting the historic partisan hospital with other attractions, and the blue trail leading to the higher lakes. The valley is not only picturesque but also rich in historical references and routes that attract both experienced hikers and family tourist groups. Interestingly, the Rohacka Valley is accessible to people with limited mobility, though with some challenges due to the terrain's incline, enhancing its inclusivity. Beyond its natural beauty, the valley also serves as a cultural space where local traditions and contemporary forms of tourism come together.
