wikipedia
Rokietnica is a rural commune in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Poznań County, with its administrative seat located in the town of the same name. The commune has developed significantly since the 2000s, with its population increasing from 8,706 inhabitants in 2004 to over 11,000 in 2009, largely due to migration from Poznań. Settlement in the Rokietnica area dates back to the Lusatian culture (around 1000 BCE), but the first documented mention of the village appears in records from 1157 related to Krzyszkowo. Rokietnica was mentioned in 1253 when Duke Przemysł I granted the village to the monastery in Obra. The region was influenced by various noble families, and significant development of the commune is attributed to the establishment of the railway line from Poznań to Stargard and Szczecin in 1848, which enabled the transport of goods and provided employment for residents. The commune includes numerous villages with rich histories, such as Mrowino, which was a royal estate, and Kiekrz, where the Kierski family resided until the 17th century. Modern-day Rokietnica organizes recurring events such as "Rumpuć," which promotes regional customs and local crafts, and offers residents and tourists the opportunity to gather around the traditional dish known as rumpuć soup. The commune also features a diverse land structure: out of its total area of 79.31 km², 83% is agricultural land, and 8% is forested. Rokietnica is a dynamically developing locality with cultural and historical value, rooted in ancient times, and actively engages the local community in various cultural events. An interesting fact is that one of Rokietnica's residents is Jacek Kortus, a pianist who received an honorable mention at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. The commune borders other towns such as Kaźmierz, Oborniki, Poznań, Suchy Las, Szamotuły, and Tarnowo Podgórne, further highlighting its location in an attractive suburban area.
