Kijewo Królewskie is a rural municipality located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Chełmno County. Its administrative seat is the village of Kijewo Królewskie, and as of 2010, it was inhabited by 4,476 people. The municipality covers an area of 72.19 km², of which 90% is agricultural land and 2% is forested. Within the municipality, there are two nature reserves: Płutowo, which protects a mixed forest in the Vistula Valley, and Zbocza Płutowskie, known for its steppe vegetation. The area boasts rich architectural heritage, including a palace complex in Bajerz from the late 19th century and another in Kijewo Szlacheckie from 1908. Registered historical monuments also include the 14th-century parish church in Kijewo Królewskie, as well as forts and shelters from World War I, which are part of the Chełmno Fortress. The municipality is culturally active, and its monuments and infrastructure, including an airfield in Watorowo, attract tourists. Thanks to the diversity of its localities, such as Trzebcz Królewski and Kosowizna, the municipality reflects the rich history of the region, dating back to the Middle Ages. It is worth noting the local communities that preserve traditions and organize contemporary cultural events, highlighting the significance of the region in a broader context.
