The Rozbark Theatre, which serves as the Bytom Dance and Movement Theatre, was established on October 28, 2013, in the historic 1868 pithead building of the Rozbark Hard Coal Mine, a registered historical monument. The theatre continues the tradition of contemporary dance in Bytom, previously developed by the now-defunct Silesian Dance Theatre. From 2014 to 2019, the institution was led by Adrian Lipiński and Anna Wróblowska, with the goal of dissolving the Silesian Dance Theatre and creating a new formation. Currently, the theatre's director is Anna Piotrowska, who took up the position in 2019.
Rozbark Theatre focuses on making dance and movement art accessible through festivals, residencies, and educational and social programs. Its repertoire is based on productions created by Piotrowska and the graduation performances of students from the Dance Theatre Department in Bytom. The theatre's performances have been presented in many Polish cities and abroad, winning numerous awards at festivals, including the Golden Mask in 2016.
A particularly notable aspect of its work is the activity of the INTEGRA group, which integrates people with disabilities through dance, creating performances that have gained recognition and won many awards. Rozbark Theatre is also active in organizing cultural events, such as the Polish Dance Platform, and runs various educational projects for youth. The residency program "Młodzi na scenę" (Youth on Stage) supports artists in creating new performances.
The theatre has won numerous awards, including the Golden Mask for Anna Piotrowska's choreography in 2021 and audience acclaim at the Shakespeare Festival. An interesting fact is that Rozbark Theatre combines diverse movement and theatrical forms, creating a space for integration and artistic development.
