Located in the Silesian Voivodeship, Rydułtowy is a city with a rich history dating back to the 13th century, when the name Rudolphi Villa first appeared in historical records. Known for its coal mining heritage, the city is situated in Upper Silesia and forms part of the Rybnik metropolitan area. Rydułtowy gained municipal rights in 1951, yet its history is also marked by administrative changes, including its incorporation into Wodzisław Śląski between 1975 and 1992. Archaeologically, the city is home to numerous historical structures, including churches such as St. George's and St. Hyacinth's, as well as numerous penitential crosses. The architecture of Rydułtowy is diverse, featuring both industrial buildings from the peak of the mining era and stylish residential houses constructed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Another point of interest is the railway tunnel built between 1853 and 1858, along with numerous ponds formed as a result of coal mining activities, which significantly influence local ecosystems. The flora and fauna of the area are rich; approximately 100 species of birds inhabit the city and its surroundings. The cultural life in Rydułtowy is vibrant, with numerous recurring events such as the Days of Rydułtowy and the Festival for Families and People with Disabilities. Rydułtowy maintains partnerships with cities such as Orlová in the Czech Republic and Hvidovre in Denmark, fostering cultural and social exchanges. Although deeply connected to the coal industry, the city continues to prioritize local life, community engagement, and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
