wikipedia
Sątoczno, formerly known as Leunenburg, is a village located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within the Korsze municipality, boasting a rich history dating back to medieval times. In 1326, on the site of a former Prussian settlement, the commander of Balga built a Teutonic fortress and a church, which contributed to the development of a market settlement that was granted town rights in 1344. Over the following years, Sątoczno went through various periods, experiencing invasions by Lithuanians, as well as historical turmoil related to the Thirteen Years' War and the Swedish Deluge. Architecturally, the dominant structure in the village is the Church of Christ the King. Its history dates back to the 14th century, and the current building was constructed after being rebuilt following destruction. The church is a single-nave structure with a characteristically three-sided closed chancel, and its tower, housing a bell from 1735, stands 32 meters tall. The sacristy, porch, and the Eulenburg family burial chapel are also valuable architectural elements, while the church's interior is enriched with an organ made in 1745. Sątoczno, as a village with a long tradition, held cultural significance, which included education and schooling activities. The school in Sątoczno has its roots in the 18th century, and during the Polish People's Republic, a new school building was erected, which was expanded in the 1990s. The School Complex was established with the aim of providing the best possible education for the residents. Interesting facts about Sątoczno include the discovery in 2000 of a historical reliquary dating back to the 12th–13th century, as well as a stone plaque from 1920 commemorating the Maeckelburg brothers who died in World War I. The village also witnessed intriguing stories, such as the settlement of Westerplatte defender Wiktor Ciereszka after World War II. Today, Sątoczno is part of a protected area, highlighting its natural values, including habitats of the white stork, which attracts both tourists and nature enthusiasts.
