Sępopol is an urban-rural municipality in Poland, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Bartoszyce County. Its administrative seat is the town of Sępopol. The municipality covers an area of 246.58 km², of which 72% is agricultural land and 17% is forested. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Olsztyn Voivodeship. Demographically, according to the 2011 National Census, Sępopol was inhabited by 6,779 people, with 2,127 residing in the town and the rest in rural areas. By 2019, the population had decreased to 6,182. The municipality has a borderland character, neighboring the municipalities of Barciany, Bartoszyce, and Korsze, as well as the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast. Architecturally, Sępopol and its surroundings boast traditional buildings that reflect the regional style and history of the area, including German and Polish influences. Culturally, the municipality participates in various initiatives that support local traditions and activities, such as festivals, exhibitions, and folklore events. The area, rich in natural resources, is also attractive to nature lovers and tourists.
