Słupsk

Słupsk is a city with county rights in northern Poland, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Its history dates back to 1013, and it was granted town rights in 1265. Słupsk, historically tied to Western Pomerania, was once the seat of the Pomeranian dukes and an important commercial and industrial center. Today, it is a significant transportation hub, situated on the Słupia River, 18 km from the Baltic Sea. The city's architecture features a blend of styles, including the Gothic Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the neo-Gothic Church of St. Hyacinth, and the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, which now houses the Museum of Central Pomerania. It is also home to the oldest still-operating elevator in Europe. Słupsk hosts numerous cultural festivals, such as the Polish Pianism Festival and the Komeda Jazz Festival, highlighting its role as a cultural center. In the second half of the 20th century, the city underwent significant changes and became part of Poland after 1945.
