Sejny

The Sejny Commune, located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, is an area rich in history and blessed with beautiful natural conditions. The seat of the commune is the town of Sejny, and between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship. It is currently inhabited by approximately 4,089 people. The commune borders Lithuania and the neighboring communes of Puńsk, Krasnopol, and Giby. It is characterized by hilly terrain, numerous lakes, and an extensive network of small rivers and streams, making it attractive to nature lovers. Within its area lies a nature reserve protecting unique species of plants and animals, as well as remnants of manor parks that testify to its historical significance. It is worth noting that in Berżniki, there is a World War I military cemetery where German and Russian soldiers are buried. The commune also features natural monuments and a historic parish church dating back to the 19th century. The demographic structure of the commune is diverse, with the majority of residents forming a community connected to agriculture, which is the main branch of the economy, supported by agritourism. Currently, there are several agritourism farms operating in the commune. Interestingly, with an area of 218.01 km², the Sejny Commune has as many as 48 village administrative units (sołectw), indicating a great diversity of local communities. One Roman Catholic parish operates in the commune, highlighting the religious traditions of its inhabitants.
