wikipedia
Siechnice is a town located in Lower Silesia, within the Siechnice municipality, with a rich history dating back to 1253, when the settlement was first mentioned under the name Sechenice. The name derives from the personal name Siechna with the suffix -ice, and over the centuries the locality has been known by various forms, including Tschechnitz and Kraftborn. During the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the hospital estates of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, and its development was hindered by numerous fires and wartime destruction. In the 19th century, Siechnice experienced a period of industrialization, which contributed to population growth and economic development, particularly in crafts and the textile industry. After World War II, the settlement was repopulated by Polish resettlers, and in 1997, Siechnice was granted town rights. The town is situated along National Road 94 and has convenient access to public transportation, including a railway line connecting it to Wrocław. Among its institutions are the Public Kindergarten named after St. John Paul II and two primary schools. The local economy is based on the Czechnica combined heat and power plant, manufacturing plants, and horticultural cultivation, including modern hydroponic techniques. Siechnice is also an attractive tourist destination, with hiking trails such as the Around Wrocław Trail and the St. James Pilgrimage Route, offering beautiful views of the surrounding nature and a wealth of local culture.
