Skarbimierz, a rural commune in the Opole Voivodeship, was established on January 1, 1973, as the Brzeg Commune. It initially incorporated the areas of twelve localities, and in 2002, the commune's seat was relocated from Brzeg to Skarbimierz-Osiedle, accompanied by a change in its name. The commune covers an area of 110.5 km², of which 76% is agricultural land and 4% is forested. Skarbimierz constitutes 12.61% of the area of Brzeg County. A key event in the commune's history was the 1991 administrative division, which separated the city of Brzeg's authorities from the commune. In 2004, the commune had 7,143 inhabitants. It borders the communes of Lewin Brzeski, Lubsza, Olszanka, Oława, Popielów, Brzeg, and Wiązów. Architecturally, Skarbimierz Commune and its surrounding localities are rich in heritage sites, including traditional rural houses and cultural buildings that reflect regional traditions. The commune is also a vibrant place where various cultural events are organized, turning Skarbimierz into a meeting space for residents. An interesting fact is that the change of the commune's name and seat aimed to better reflect local identity, while also expressing a trend towards administrative decentralization in Poland. Various agricultural events also take place within the commune, influencing its character and the socio-cultural activity of its inhabitants.
