The municipality of Sońsk, located in the Masovian Voivodeship within the Ciechanów County, is predominantly agricultural and stands as the largest municipality in the region. Its administrative seat is situated in the town of Sońsk. According to data from June 2004, the municipality was home to 8,177 residents. It covers an area of 154.99 km², with a predominance of agricultural land (84%) and forested areas (10%). Sońsk is located near the southern border of Ciechanów County, approximately 100 kilometers from Warsaw. A key railway line, E-65, which connects Gdańsk and Warsaw, runs through the municipality. Sońsk is also home to over 350 business entities, highlighting the region's economic vitality. The municipality comprises 40 localities, including a significant number of village districts (sołectwa) such as Bądkowo, Burkaty, Chrościce, and Soboklęszcz. The area faces challenges related to rural water supply but is actively expanding its sewage network, reflecting ongoing infrastructure development.
