Sośnia, formerly the Granowiec commune, is a rural commune in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located in the Ostrów Wielkopolski County. The commune covers an area of 187.72 km² and had a population of 6,579 in 2019, making it the smallest commune in the county by population. It is situated in the southwestern part of the voivodeship, adjacent to the Barucko-Głogowska Pradolina, between the Trzebnica Ridge and the Kalisz Upland. It is characterized by rich forest areas, which cover 54.1% of its territory. The commune was once a site of German settlement, and the most popular local nomenclature is related to forestry activities. The Moja Wola and Świeca forests are the main forest complexes, along with protected areas such as the "Dolina Baryczy" Landscape Park. The commune is home to numerous natural monuments, including the "Jan" oak tree and an avenue of oaks, which may be of interest to nature enthusiasts. In terms of the economy, the main industries are trade, services, and construction. In 2017, there were 429 registered businesses in the commune, and the average income per capita was 4,270 PLN. The commune has no debt, which is very positive. Transport in Sośnia is well-developed, with road and rail connections, as well as public transport services. Since 2015, the mayor of the commune has been Stanisław Budzik, and local cultural life is enriched by traditions associated with the area and activities promoting local history and nature.
