Spanish Court in Sopot

The Spanish Manor in Sopot is a historic building that has earned the title of the oldest preserved structure in the city. It was constructed in the 17th century as the property of Jakub Kleefeld, the son of the mayor of Gdańsk. Throughout its history, the manor frequently changed owners, including the mayor of Gdańsk, Hans Rogge, and representatives of noble families such as the Uphagens, Giesebrechts, Schumanns, and Przebendowskis. After being damaged by Russian troops in 1733, the manor was rebuilt in the 1740s, which contributed to shaping its current form. From an architectural perspective, the building represents the Baroque style, combining cultural elements from the region. During the period of Prussian partitions, the manor served various public utility functions, including as a pension office, post office, and school. Since 1903, it has been used as a residence. In 1981, it was entered into the register of historical monuments, confirming its historical and cultural significance. Interestingly, despite changing owners and functions over time, the manor has retained much of its original character, making it an important part of Sopot's heritage.
