wikipedia
Spytkowice is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within the municipality of the same name, with a rich history dating back to 1234. The first settlement in this area is associated with the voivode Teodor, who donated his estates to the Cistercian Order. Its location near an important trade route contributed to the village's growing significance, although wars and invasions significantly delayed its colonial development. The Jordan family played a particularly important role, owning extensive properties and wielding considerable influence in the region. Wawrzyniec Spytek Jordan contributed to the development of settlement and culture. In 1758, a parish was established in Spytkowice, reflecting the dynamic growth of the community. After World War II, the village became an independent administrative entity, and in 1998, the municipality of Spytkowice was reestablished. Architectural attractions include an 18th-century wooden church with a beautiful interior, a belfry, and an inn, all listed in the register of historical monuments. The church, funded by Count Roman Sierakowski, features a Rococo main altar and valuable paintings from previous centuries. An interesting fact is that Spytkowice was significantly involved in Hungarian trade, further emphasizing its geopolitical importance. The village is home to the Municipal Cultural Center, a library, a National Memorial Room, and various associations, indicating an active cultural life. The charm of the area is enhanced by tourist trails in the Beskids, and the local fauna and flora attract nature enthusiasts. The municipality's coat of arms, reflecting ancient heraldic traditions, symbolizes the rich historical context of Spytkowice, incorporating symbols associated with its former owners.
