wikipedia
The Church of St. Anthony of the Caves and St. Paraskeva the Martyr in Hola is an Orthodox church, operating as a filial church of the Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Horostyta, within the Chełm Deanery of the Lublin-Chełm Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Its history dates back to 1588, when the parish was originally Uniate. The first church, built in 1610, was destroyed in a fire in 1700, with subsequent structures erected in 1702, 1846, and 1875. The church has a turbulent history: it transitioned to Orthodoxy following the dissolution of the Chełm Diocese, and in 1924 it became the seat of a Neo-Uniate parish. World War II brought further upheavals, and the church returned to Orthodox use in 1953. Between 2010 and 2014, the temple underwent a comprehensive renovation. Its interior is adorned with a historic 19th-century iconostasis, a processional banner (feretron) from 1762, as well as Uniate icons and paintings. The church features wooden log architecture, reinforced with tie beams (lisice), and has a single-nave interior. Important liturgical services and feast day celebrations are held here annually, and the Hola Fair organized every July highlights its significance in local culture. The church, bell tower, and Orthodox cemetery have been listed in the register of monuments since 1966. Today, services are held twice a month, and the site is open to visitors, underscoring its cultural and social importance in the region.
